June 5: A homemaker and her six-month-old daughter died yesterday after she allegedly made her two children have poison before consuming it herself following an argument with her husband and in-laws.

The woman’s other daughter is under treatment at the Jalpaiguri district hospital.

The incident took place in a Mainaguri village, 25km from Jalpaiguri town.

Maya got married to Ramchandra Roy, an agriculturist from Satbhendi, five years ago. They have two daughters, Anamika, 3, and six-month-old Kalita.

“Maya’s brother Krishnagopal developed a relationship with Gita, Ramchandra’s sister and Maya’s in-laws and her husband started blaming her,” Maya’s uncle said. “It seems Maya could not take the torment anymore.”

An officer from Mainaguri police station said: “It seems to be a case of suicide. No complaint has been filed yet.”
