Luxury van for BJP

The BJP has pulled up its socks to prepare for the Assembly polls after decimating all its opponents in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections.

The Bihar unit of the party has provided a caravan (a modified van) to former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi to start a campaign and address public rallies across the state. The swanky caravan was handed over to Modi at the time of the Lok Sabha elections but it was not used because most of the travelling was done in choppers.

Modi is now using the caravan for campaigns. He said: “Though the caravan was provided to me by the state unit, it does not mean that only I will use it. Senior leaders of the party can also travel and use it. The caravan is good for relaxing while travelling, for reading purposes and when there is nothing to do you can watch movies. It has a sound system and all the necessary facilities,” Modi said.

The luxury caravan has cost Rs 50 lakh. Modi, BJP state unit president Mangal Pandey and Rajya Sabha member C.P. Thakur has already travelled in the caravan. The vehicle reminds one of the film Swades, where actor Shah Rukh Khan played the role of a scientist.

With two reclining sofas, a washroom with shower, a television set with a DVD player, refrigerator, oven and two-feet tall folding stage on the top of the caravan, the vehicle is one-of-its-kind. It is air-conditioned and its sitting area has four sofas. The caravan can accommodate eight persons.

Four cordless loudspeakers are fitted in it and there is a hydraulic lift that functions with a remote control. It helps in reaching to the roof. The lift can bear the weight of two people at one time.
