TT: Who do you attribute your electoral success to?

Bhagat: BJP workers, who put in their best

What about the NaMo factor?

The entire country was eager to see Narendra Modi as Prime Minister. It recharged BJP workers to put their heart and soul into fulfilling people’s aspirations and ensured my success too

What prompted Modi to sideline senior parliamentarians and induct you to his council of ministers?

I am grateful he (Modi) expressed faith in me. Maybe he wants to promote young leadership

What was the RSS role?

No idea. I can only proudly claim to being born and brought up in the Sangh Parivar

What are your priorities now?

I have just assumed my new charge. Give me a little time. But, I assure you that welfare schemes will be properly executed

The BJP does not approve special favours to minorities. Comment

The BJP has never been opposed to better education and job opportunities to any section of society, including Muslims

What favours can Jharkhand hope from you?

I am a son of the soil. Dalits, tribals, OBCs and minority communities constitute the lion’s share of the state population, which needs maximum attention by the ministry of social justice and empowerment

Now that Vidhan Sabha polls are approaching, what are your tips for party workers?

They should be working with the same spirit as they did during Lok Sabha polls. Jharkhandis are fed up with coalition governments. The BJP alone can form a stable government

What will be your role here?

I will devote maximum possible time to strengthen party organisation and intensify mass campaigns. Every MP will get important responsibilities

How do you feel becoming Union minister?

I’ve always stayed within my limits but now people have bigger expectations from me. So long, my role was confined to serving the masses of Jharkhand and Lohardaga. Now, my work area has expanded to cover my country.
