Enjoyed each and every moment: SRK

It was camaraderie over rivalry when Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta met at Eden Gardens, on Wednesday. The Kolkata Knight Riders’ principal owner didn’t forget to cheer up the Kings XI Punjab co-owner after the latter lost the Qualifier 1 by 28 runs. While the Knight Riders made the final, Kings XI will have to battle it out against Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 2 on Friday. A Telegraph picture

Calcutta: It was around 4.35pm when Shah Rukh Khan entered the Eden, on Wednesday. The Knights were not exactly in a commanding position at that stage, but as the game progressed, it was just one team that ruled… the Badshah’s Kolkata Knight Riders.

No wonder the superstar was delirious after the Knight Riders wrapped up Wednesday’s Qualifier I. He had every reason to be so as he missed the previous three occasions at his favourite Eden Gardens. On Wednesday, Shah Rukh savoured every bit of the occasion while KKR too ensured their principal owner didn’t return disappointed.

Each and every moment of this all-important clash was precious for Shah Rukh, he said after the match. “I enjoyed each and every bit of the game. Each and every moment was precious… Terrific atmosphere and it became better and better as the game progressed… This is what Eden’s all about.”

He also thanked the Eden crowd for their relentless support to KKR in his absence during the matches last week. “In the previous matches, the fans did their bit to ensure KKR were on the winning side in my absence. Today, I took it upon myself to do the job… Am pleased that my knights have done their stuff,” he said.

Shah Rukh was at the Chepauk when KKR lifted their maiden IPL trophy back in 2012. Of course, he would want to be present this time around at the Chinnaswamy and cheer his team to its second title in three years. But a tight schedule could keep him away from the grand finale on June 1.

“Obviously, I would want to be there for the final and cheer my team to attain glory. But I really don’t know whether I’ll be able to make it to Bangalore or not because of my tight schedule. Let’s see what happens,” he said.

Shah Rukh also came up with his share of tweets, lavishing praise on KKR. His fabulous Wednesday evening also included a brief, informal meeting with chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who dropped in at the Eden towards the end of the match for about half-an-hour.

“My KKR how beautiful were they tonite. Fish fry with MamataDi…ride along the Kolkata roads with all celebrating. Tendo, Surya, Piyush, Robin & all my Knights this one is for Aazeen & AbRam. Thanx for making little ones happy, makes for the biggest happiness,” Shah Rukh tweeted.

“The goal is set & our mission is true. The Knights will fight in sun or rain.Oh Kolkata we will always come for u. KKR,” he had tweeted prior to his arrival in the city.
