Suraj Singh in final

Imphal, May 28: Th. Suraj Singh of Imphal East punched his way into the final of the fourth sub-junior boys’ State-Level Boxing Championship, 2014 held at Boxing Ring, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

In the 30kg category, Suraj Singh boxed out Kh. Rohit Singh of Bishnupur and booked a berth in the final.

The semi-finalists in the sub-junior girls’ category include O. Pinky of Imphal West in 40kg, L. Ninika of Imphal East in 46kg, M. Priya of NSA Imphal and Sh. Romi of Bishnupur in the 52kg category.

In the junior boys’ category L. Johnson of Imphal West and Th. Homen of Senapati in 64kg category entered the semi-final.

Veteran Football: Veteran Welfare Association got the better of Veteran Sports Association, Nambul Mapal by 8-5 goals during penalty shootout to move into the semi-final of the 16th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament 2014 played at Mapal Kangjeibung.

Football veteran faulted on numerous chances in the game, paving the way to the penalty shootout where according to tournament regulation, all 11 were given chances for the penalty kick.

During the subsequent shootout, Football Veteran Welfare Association scored eight goals through Th. Khellen, Kh. Rajen Khanganba, N. Itocha, L. Uttam, K. Loken, Md Rashid, T. Deban and N. Jugeshor.

M. Sobha, Letpao Haokip, S. Dineshwor, Y. Ishorchandra and E. Toto scored for Nambul Mapal. The second quarter-final match between Sadar Hills and TRVSA Nambol was called off because of a sudden downpour.

Football: The All-Manipur Football Association has selected three clubs, including Nambul Mapal Cultural Organisation, FC Khanglai Sadar Hills and KLASA Keinou for participation in the ninth Manipur State League, 2014.
