‘Will try and negate Knights’ positives’

Calcutta: Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have had it easy against most teams in this IPL, barring Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians. While they lost both their matches against MI, the head-to-head record against KKR stands at 1-1.

Things could get even tougher for KXIP when they go into Tuesday’s Qualifier I, with the capacity crowd at the Eden roaring for the Knights. KXIP coach Sanjay Bangar, though, believes such an atmosphere might help in bringing the best out of his side.

“We’re looking forward to such an atmosphere. Eden Gardens has a history of producing great cricket. It’s good to have that sort of competition and challenge for both sides. I feel we’ll revel in these conditions,” Bangar said on Monday.

Speaking further, he said: “Past records don’t really matter or indicate anything. The teams that made the play-offs have played really good cricket.

“Like other teams, KKR too will come up with their share of strategies. Our job will be to try and negate their positives, just like any other team does to counter the opposition.”

Talking about his team, Bangar emphasised on forming a well-balanced squad. “The idea was to put up a well-balanced squad and so far, things have worked out. An effort was always there to forge a balanced team, capable of performing in all conditions.”
