Ramdin a good leader: Narine

Sunil Narine

Calcutta: Sunil Narine isn’t commenting on Darren Sammy’s removal as the West Indies’ Test captain and his immediate retirement from the longest format, but he’s confident successor Denesh Ramdin will rise to the occasion.

Like ’keeper Ramdin, Narine is from Trinidad & Tobago.

“Ramdin has been a good leader and has led Trinidad & Tobago well. He has a good head on his shoulders,” Narine, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ premier bowler, told The Telegraph.

Narine added: “Ramdin’s biggest challenge will be with the Test team... We’re No.8 in the rankings and, clearly, have to quickly move up. That has to be the priority.”

The West Indies are No.8 in the ODIs as well. In T20Is, they’re just a step above — at No.7.

Incidentally, with Ramdin getting the Test captaincy, there’s a separate captain in each of the formats. Dwayne Bravo has the top job in ODIs, while Sammy is the captain in T20Is.
