Knight Riders elect to field

Calcutta: Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss in their crucial match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and opted to bowl first.

According to Gambhir, his team have been chasing well and so the decision. “We have been chasing well so far… So I don’t see any reason to change that,” Gambhir said after the toss.

To get their net run rate above that of Chennai Super Kings, Knight Riders will need to completing a successful chase in around 15 overs, no matter how big their target is. A target of 130 would require them to win in 15.1 overs, while a target of 200 would need them to finish in 15.3 overs.

The Knights went for an unchanged XI from their last match, against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, but Gambhir did say that leggie Piyush Chawla was unfortunate to miss out. “We have opted for the same XI… So Piyush Chawla unfortunately misses out.”

The Knights final position on the points table hinges on the match, but Gambhir said that he wasn’t thinking too much about it.
