MI look to upset KXIP

Mohali: On a roll after notching up nine victories to qualify for the play-off stage, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) would look to continue their winning momentum when they take on Mumbai Indians in their first IPL VII match at home, here, on Wednesday.

KXIP have been high on confidence after steamrolling almost every other opponent they have played against and one more victory on Wednesday before the home crowd will put them in a commanding position as this IPL heads towards its business end.

KXIP, on Monday, defeated the Delhi DareDevils, once again displaying their class, which has made them a top team this season. Unlike in the past, when they looked to bank heavily on individual brilliance, the good thing this time around has been that the team has struck the right balance.

However, the job might not be too easy for the Kings XI as Mumbai Indians (MI) go into this game after a convincing win over a formidable Rajasthan Royals. And mind you, MI had beaten the Kings XI in the first phase of the competition.

Besides, Michael Hussey, too, has found his form back, something that should make the rest of the batsmen breathe easier.

On the other hand, MI will be hoping for a repeat of batting performances from Lendl Simmons and Hussey, which they displayed against the Royals.

The pitch, which has generally led to competitive matches favouring batsmen and bowlers alike, should be to the liking of Kieron Pollard, whose role would be a significant one against KXIP.

The visitors would also be hoping that their senior pro and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh uses his experience at his home ground to his team’s advantage. (AGENCIES)
