Sadar Hills blank Imphal East

Imphal, May 20: Sadar Hills blanked Imphal East Veteran Football Association by 4-0 goals to sail into the quarter- final of the 16th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament 2014 at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

In another match, FC Imphal also booked their quarter-final berth, defeating Sirti Chandel by 2-0 goals. Th. Krishna scored both the goals for FC Imphal.

Memorial chess: Defending champion and top seed S. Premjit Singh started on a winning note in the 20th Kh. Anou Singh Memorial State-Level Open Chess Tournament 2014 organised by Kwakeithel Chess Club today.

The first round saw top seed Premjit Singh getting the better of Kh. Olay to garner full points while on another table, second seed Rk. Bhogen Singh beat Ch. Sunil.

The other matches saw Bankim Singh beat Ronald, H. Jacky beat N. Loken, Ningthem beat Lenin, Inao Sharma beat Babulananda, N. Kishanbeat Robindro, Shashikanta beat S. Herojit, Pritam Singh beat Boinao and Koireng beat Lawrence to bag full points.

Altogether 62 players are taking part in the tournament.

Body-building: The Manipur Amateur Body-Builders’ Association is organising the Mr MABBA Contest, 2014 on May 31 at Kakwa Community Hall.

Entry forms can be collected at Janaki Barbal Club or the association’s office.

Tennis meet: The Manipur Tennis Association is organising the third North East Cash Prize Tennis Championship at Officers’ Club, Lamphelpat, from tomorrow. Around 250 players from Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will participate in the meet.
