CCC ground Brahmaputra

Guwahati, May 20: City Cricket Coaching Centre inflicted a five-wicket defeat on Brahmaputra Boys Club in their match of the first Maharshi Bora Trophy Cricket Tournament at Judges Field here today.

Put in to bat, Brahmaputra Boys Club struggled in the middle as the side could only manage 103 runs before being all out in 30.5 overs. Subham Dey scored 36 runs off 60 balls, including two hits to the fence, while Samir Sharma with 12 runs off 23 deliveries was the other notable contributor for his side. Mustaq Ahmed picked up three wickets conceding 18 runs in 6.5 overs while Akash Maurya and Anup Bhujel bagged two wickets each.

In reply, City batsmen got past the target losing five wickets in 31.2 overs. Tanuj Kalita scored 37 runs off 63 balls, which included five boundaries while Pabitra Pator chipped in with 23 runs off 41deliveries. Aman Kalita remained unbeaten with 20 runs off 23 balls. Akash Chetry, Samir Sharma and Aman Chetry picked up one wicket each for their side.

City Cricket Coaching Centre will lock horns with Navarang Club in the first semi-final on Thursday.

Mountaineering: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi today flagged off a 27-member team of mountaineers, who are on a pre-Everest expedition to Island Peak in Nepal Himalayas from Wednesday, from his official residence here. The team is led by Manash Barooah along with Pranoy Bordoloi as his deputy.

Martial arts: The Martial Arts Sports and Cultural Association Assam will send three players to represent India in the Asian Thai Boxing Championship to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from May 23 to 25.
