London: Arsenal player Lukas Podolski wore special boots with the words “Keep Fighting Michael” on them to show his support for Formula One legend Michael Schumacher who continues to be in a state of coma.
Podolski wore the special boot during his team’s triumphant match against Hull City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
The boots had those words written on them as a mark of a tribute to the fellow German who has been in a state of coma since a skiing injury in December last year.
Footballers are known to have trophies and their initials designed on their boots for special events. Podolski however chose to flash his special message for compatriot Schumacher.
“My boots for the final!! And the best wishes to Michael,” he had tweeted before the match, with the image of the shoes.
Arsenal managed to win their match – claiming their first title since 2005 – and fans would be hoping that Schumacher keeps up the same spirit.
Podolski, who hails from Poland, moved to the North-Rhine Westphalia region of Germany when he was two years old – the same area that Schumacher was born and grew up in.
