Shikhar: Captaincy not affecting game

Shikhar Dhawan

Calcutta: So far in IPL VII, Sunrisers Hyderabad haven’t quite seen the best of Shikhar Dhawan as yet.

The captain has got off to starts, but couldn’t convert them into big ones. His highest score so far is 45, which came at home against Kings XI Punjab.

Dhawan not getting big scores could be one reason, perhaps, for the Sunrisers not featuring among the top four in the table. For his part, though, Dhawan doesn’t believe captaincy to be having any effect whatsoever on his batting.

“I feel cricket is a mental game. The batsman in me has never got bogged down after being handed the Sunrisers captaincy.

“When I am batting, it is not the captain who is at the crease, but the batsman in me who is facing the ball. Some people say that the pressure of captaincy affects your batting without your knowledge, but I personally have not felt it.

“Captaincy is not affecting my game,” the left-hander told the IPL’s official website.
