Yuvi steals spotlight

AB de Villiers on way to 33

Bangalore: Yuvraj Singh smashed a magnificent 68 not out in a stunning six-hitting exhibition to power Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a 16-run victory over Delhi Daredevils (DD), here, on Tuesday.

The in-form Yuvraj, scoring a brilliant 83 of just 38 balls against the Rajasthan Royals in RCB’s previous game, lit up the Chinnaswamy, hitting nine sixes and a four off just 29 balls to single-handedly take his side to a 186 for four after being put in to bat. Play got underway an hour and ten minutes after the scheduled start because of a slight drizzle.

Chasing an imposing 187 for victory, the DareDevils were restricted to 170 for seven.

With this victory, RCB moved up to sixth with eight points from 10 matches, while DD continue languishing at the bottom with four points from 10 matches as their hopes of reaching the last four seem as good as over.

Coming out to bat in the 13th over with the team total at 94 for three, Yuvraj struck sixes almost at will towards the end of the innings after a tad slow start by his side. This was Yuvraj’s third fifty-plus knock in 10 matches this IPL, signalling his return to his vintage best.

Yuvraj hit three sixes of successive balls off South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir to gather 21 runs from the 17th over and then smashed a maximum each in the next two overs, bowled by Mohammed Shami and Siddarth Kaul, respectively. He reserved his best for the final over of the RCB innings as he hammered Rahul Shukla for 27 runs, belting four consecutive sixes.

DD began their chase in the worst possible fashion as they lost both their openers Murali Vijay (1) and Quinton de Kock (6) inside the second over. They were reeling at 10 for two then.
