Teacher gherao

Siliguri, May 8: Members of the Trinamul Congress-backed West Bengal Primary Teacher’s Association today confined chairman of the district primary school council to his office for more than three hours, demanding that he should not cancel the “temporary transfer” of more than 250 primary teachers in the Siliguri educational district.

Sources at the DPSC said “temporary attachment” is a procedure through which teachers are transferred on a temporary basis from a school where there is excess of teachers to schools where there is scarcity of teachers.

The Trinamul association alleged that the DPSC chairman, Mukul Kanti Ghosh, had revoked the order of “temporary attachment” of around 250 primary teachers issued by the previous chairman in November last year.

More than 100 members of the association took out a rally before heading to Ghosh’s office for the gherao.
