Yairipok win 4-2

Imphal, May 6: All-Yairipok Master Football Association thrashed NCDA Khonghampat by 4-2 goals in the 16th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament played at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

All-Yairipok took the lead in the 16th minute with Thangson tapping in his teamís first goal off a cross from Y. Ingobi. Sh. Shyam consolidated in the 22nd minute from a short pass by M.K. Kendio for a 2-0 lead.

However, NCDA Khonghampat fought back with M. Biken Singh narrowing the gap with their first goal from a free kick in the 23rd minute. S. Ito Singh equalised in the 27th minute. All-Yairipok were rewarded for their continuous attack after NCDA player L. Gopendro deliberately handled the ball for a penalty in the 52nd minute.

Y. Ingobi made no mistake in guiding the ball home to make it 3-2. N. Tombinou scored Yairipokís fourth goal in the 55th minute for the victory. In another league match, Football Lovers Welfare Association were held to a goalless draw by United Veteran Sports Association to share a point each.

Memorial cricket: Cyclone Thangmeiband posted a 91-run victory over Youth Welfare Club, Langthabal, to move into the final of the Brajabihari Paul and Govind Paul Memorial Trophy at Luwangpokpa cricket stadium.

Winning the toss, Cyclone decided to bat and posted 166 runs for five wickets in 35 overs. Youth Welfare Club reeled under pressure from Cyclone bowlers and were all out for 75 runs in 26.4 overs. Cyclone bowler Homendro was adjudged Man of the Match for his four-wicket haul and unbeaten knock of 26 runs.

The final match between Cyclone Thangmeiband and Champ Khagempalli will be played on Sunday.

Invitation: The All-Manipur Football Association has invited top division clubs, approved and recommended by the DSA/DFA, to replace relegated clubs and collect pro forma for the 9th Manipur State League within May 15.
