A group of doctors came together to discuss the latest in diabetes care at a workshop — Diabetes Update 2014, Calcutta — on Sunday.
The workshop was organised by the Calcutta Diabetes and Endocrinology Forum.
Doctors at the workshop also discussed how best to spread awareness about the disease among the economically backward classes, where the disease is spreading fast.
According to Tirthankar Chaudhury, the president of the forum, diabetes affects Indians at an earlier age as compared with the people in western countries. The early onset is affecting the people’s “productive age”, which is why it is even more important to prevent complications resulting from the disease.
Two persons were injured after the bike they were riding on skidded off the road near Chinar Park, off Rajarhat Expressway, on Saturday night.
According to police, both riders were wearing helmets. They were taken to a nearby hospital, from where they were discharged after first-aid.
