Empty blocks likely at Eden

Calcutta: The Calcutta Police have requested the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to keep Gate No. 11 and 12 (Blocks G and H) out of bounds for the public on May 14 when KKR play MI at Eden.

“On May 16, the counting of votes will be held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. So, there is a security concern. The police have always co-operated with us. So, in all likelihood, we will accede to their request as tickets for blocks G and H will not be sold,” joint secretary Subir Ganguly said on Friday.

The CAB, meanwhile, will be organising a seven-day camp for the district players at the Jadavpur University Salt Lake Campus ground from Monday.

Former players Gopal Bose, Saradindu Mukherjee, Sagarmoy Sen Sharma, Dattatreya Mukherjee, Pranab and Palash Nandy will be overseeing the camp where over 300 players are expected to turn up. “Out of 300, 70 will be shortlisted for future camps,” Saradindu said on Friday.
