Team to review water projects

Jamshedpur, April 26: In a bid to ensure swift completion of two major drinking water projects in and around the city, East Singhbhum district administration today formed a team comprising representatives from drinking water and sanitation department, Jharkhand Vidyut Vikas Nigam Limited (formerly JSEB) and local civic bodies.

The team, which was formed during a review meeting chaired by deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal, will identify hurdles impeding completion of the Rs 64.18-crore Mango drinking water project and the Rs 28-crore Moharda drinking water project. The team will also suggest feasible solutions to the problems they identify and submit a report to the deputy commissioner on Tuesday.

Additional deputy commissioner Ganesh Prasad said the Mango project, which is already supplying water to 11,770 households, is yet to be fully functional owing to low voltage.

“The joint committee will inspect the project site and prepare an estimate for the installation of a dedicated feeder for the water treatment plant and the intake well. The cost of the installation will be borne by Mango Notified Area Committee,” said additional deputy commissioner Ganesh Prasad.

Jusco, executing agency for the Mango water project, has been asked to plug the leakage points and repair roads dug up for laying pipelines.

The Mango water project plant has a capacity to supply 48 million litres of water daily for the next 24 years.

The joint team will also inspect Moharda drinking water project and examine hurdles in the construction of weir and laying pipelines.

Besides a weir, the project includes seven water towers, a filtration plant and an intake well. It promises to supply 5.5 million gallons a day. Barring the weir, other structures are complete.
