EB are the champions

Calcutta: Subhojit Banerjee’s unbeaten 101 helped East Bengal beat YMCA by six wickets in the CAB First Division Championship play-off final, at Eden Gardens, on Friday.

East Bengal had no problems in overhauling YMCA’s score of 214, reaching home in 69.5 overs. Bidyut Adhikary also contributed with 51.

This was East Bengal’s second trophy in the season, having won the Senior Knockout tournament earlier.

Apart from winning two titles so far in the season, East Bengal have also reached the semi-finals of both A.N. Ghosh and J.C. Mukherjee Trophy.

Elsewhere, Kidderpore Sporting beat Kolkata Union Sporting by a similar margin to emerge champions in the second division. Kidderpore Sporting, thus, earned a promotion to the first division next season.


First Division Championship play-off final: YMCA 214. East Bengal 216/4 (S. Banerjee 101 ..). East Bengal won by 6 wkts.

Second Division Championship play-off final: Kolkata Union Sporting 234. Kidderpore Sporting 235/4 (A. Adhikary 72). Kidderpore Sporting won by 6 wkts.

J.C.Mukherjee Trophy: Bhowanipore 226/2 in 20 ovs (RR Das 70 .., A. Ghosh 65 ..). Paikpara Sporting 190/9 in 20 ovs (W. Chatterjee 3/25). Bhowanipore won by 36 runs.
