Civic chief attack finger at Trinamul

Islampur, April 25: The Congress chairman of the Dalkhola municipality has filed an FIR against Trinamul supporters for allegedly attacking him at his home last night.

The Congress has called a 12-hour bandh in the civic area on Saturday to protest against the incident.

Subhas Goswami, the chairman, has filed the complaint with the Dalkhola police outpost against the Trinamul Congress Dalkhola town president, Swadesh Sarkar and Tanay Dey, a former chairman of the civic body.

“It was around 8pm yesterday when a group of 50 to 60 Trinamul supporters, led by Swadesh Sarkar and Tanay Dey barged into my house and attacked me without provocation. They pushed and shoved me. They snatched my wristwatch and a five hundred-rupee note. They were in my house for about 15 minutes and left after verbally abusing my family members,” Goswami said.

Trinamul has countered the charge by saying that Goswami and his brother had used foul language against chief minister Mamata Banerjee at a polling booth yesterday and also thrashed a polling agent. They had gone to Goswami’s home to register their protest. Swadesh Sarkar has also filed an FIR.

Subimal Pal, the subdivisional police officer of Islampur, said the police had received both the complaints. “The police have received two complaints and are investigating the allegations. No one has been arrested yet.”
