Calcutta glory at city golf meet

Jamshedpur, April 19: Bibek Sardar posted a comfortable eight stroke victory to capture the title in the second leg of Tata Steel IGU East Zone Sub-junior Tour, which concluded at Golmuri course today.

The Calcutta lad scripted a card of 1-over 72 in the second and final round to finish with a tournament tally of 6-over 148 to triumph in the top categories (A and B).

Fellow Calcuttan Hassan Rahman Khandokar finished second with a two-round total of 156 after shooting a 4-over card in the final round. Jamshedpur’s Sharif Khan was third at 159 while Rohit Kumar Bouri, also from the steel city, was fourth at 161.

Alan Singh, administrative chief of Jamshedpur Golf, handed over the prizes.

“It was a tough day on the golf course for both body and the mind. The pin positions were challenging and the greens were playing true. I focussed on my game today and was able to release my putter smoothly. I sank putts and that really helped me,” said Bibek.

Sandeep Kumar Yadav, also from Calcutta, emerged as the winner in Category C with a total of 151, while citymate Rajib Ali was second at 163. Abhikanks Basu, also from the city of joy ended up third at 172.

Supremacy of golfers from the Bengal capital continued in Category D with all top three spots going to them. Arav Shanghavi finished at the top with a tally of 170, while Pranshu Poddar was runner-up at 181. Kaushal Bagrodia ended up third at 183.

Marshneil Prasad from Jamshedpur won in the girls’ B category with a total of 197, while Chitrangadha Singh from Calcutta took the eves’ C category honours with 163.
