Charges against Sita

Ranchi, April 16: A special CBI court today framed charges against JMMís Jama MLA Sita Soren and her associate Rajendra Mandal in the 2012 Rajya Sabha cash-stash case.

The duo are, currently, lodged at Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi and appeared before the judge through a video-conference.

In February, the court had framed charges on Jamshedpur-based industrialist R.K. Agrawal and Calcutta businessman Pawan Kumar Dhoot who were eyeing Rajya Sabha seats as Independents, besides Sunil Kumar Maheshwari who was Dhootís poll agent.

The CBI, in its chargesheet submitted in the court, alleged that Sita received Rs 1.50 crore from Agrawal in lieu of her support. Mandal is accused of felicitating this deal.

The CBI has slapped Sections 120B and 171E of the IPC and Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(D) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, against them. Both have denied the charges.
