Morning shows the vote day

Spring in their step on the ultimate day of campaign, Jamshedpur’s MP hopefuls dashed from one corner of the prestigious parliamentary constituency to another early to make the final cut before Vote Thursday.

The Election Commission had marked 4pm on Tuesday as the canvassing deadline and the big three — sitting JVM MP Ajoy Kumar, his BJP bęte noire Bidyut Baran Mahto and JMM challenger Niroop Mahanty — professed good time management. While Kumar and Mahto began the day soon after dawn, touring the city and its fringes till late afternoon, Mahanty spent time in Patamda with party supremo Shibu Soren.

In February, Kumar had requested the BJP leadership in Delhi to let him campaign. “I was asked to meet voters in Jharkhand since I belong to the state. I chose Jamshedpur. I came here last week, met Mundaji (Arjun Munda) and started campaigning,” he said.

The Ranchi Marwari College alumnus with kin in Mango added: “In medical science, we believe in evidence-based practice. During his 10-year stint in Gujarat, Modi proved he is an able administrator. I think he should be given a chance”
