Students die in bike mishap

Two college boys died in a road accident on Harmu bridge along Harmu Bypass in Argora police station area of the capital on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place when the bike they were riding collided head-on with a school bus (registration number JH17D 1742).

The victims have been identified as Vijay Kumar Pandey (18), a first-year commerce student of Doranda College, and Shobit Kumar (20), a first-year BBA student of Marwari College. Both were residents of Bank Colony in Sukhdeonagar police station area. The bike belonged to Shobit.

SP (city) Anup Birthare said the accident took place because the boys were speeding. “Preliminary investigations reveal that the bike was in high speed when it collided with the bus. The youths were not wearing helmets,” he said.

The bus has been seized but its driver has escaped.

Bereaved parents have, however, blamed the bus driver for the mishap.
