Wahingdoh make cut

Calcutta: A draw would have been good enough for Bhowanipore Club to secure them an I-League berth.

But they will have to wait for one more season as Royal Wahingdoh overcame them via a 3-2 result in the 2 nd Division League decider, at the Lammual Stadium, in Aizawl, on Friday.

The wait finally ended for Royal Wahingdoh as the victory earned them a ticket to the 2014-15 edition of the I-League. In the process, they became the third club from Shillong to achieve the feat.

Jackiechand Singh (37th), Babatunde Badmus (57th) and Liberian striker Bekay Bawar (87th) were on target for the winners. For Bhowanipore, Daniel Bidemi’s brace went in vain.

This match was most probably the last of Jose Ramirez Barreto, who came in as a substitute in the 58 th minute, as a professional.

The victory enabled Wahingdoh finish on top of the table with 18 points from eight matches, followed by Bhowanipore on 17 points.

Kalighat Milan Sangha, with 10 points, finished third, followed by United Sikkim FC (seven points) and Hindustan FC on four points.
