SAI, Noonmati win

- Capital Public School to meet Fairyland School today

Guwahati, April 9: SAI RNS Academy and Noonmati English School registered wins in their respective matches on the inaugural day of the Nabin Chandra Tamuly Inter-school Cricket Tournament organised by the Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre at the Nehru Stadium here today.

In the inaugural match, SAI RNS Academy got the better of Rashtrabhasha Prabhakar Hindi Vidyalaya by 18 runs.

Electing to bat, SAI RNS boys put up a modest total of 163 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their stipulated 25 overs. Rahul Amin scored 31 runs off 38 deliveries while Pritam B. Talukdar chipped in with 26 runs off 16 balls. Rajesh Kr Roy was another notable contributor with 22 runs off 44 deliveries. Akash Das of Rashtrabhasha picked up three wickets for 37 runs in his allotted five overs while Pappu Das scalped two wickets conceding 31 runs in his quota of overs.

Chasing the target, Rashtrabhasha batsmen managed 145 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their regular overs. Subham Das topscored for his side with 36 runs off 42 deliveries while Akash Das and Gangadhar Jha chipped in with 31 and 26 runs respectively. Subham Paul, Zahid Md Al Zabir and Rajesh Kr Roy of SAI RNS scalped two wickets each.

In the second match of the day, Noonmati English School thrashed Sarvajanik Hindi School by 77 runs.

Earlier, the match had to be truncated to 20 overs a side because of delay in the start of the match.

The start of the first match of the tournament was delayed because of the opening ceremony, which eventually led to the delay in start of the second match.

Noonmati boys, electing to bat, put up a competitive total of 154 runs for the loss of three wickets in their stipulated overs. Sonu Kumar topscored with an unbeaten knock of 66 runs off 48 balls while Rahul Das remained unbeaten on 33 runs off 13 deliveries. Nabanil Sarma contributed 27 runs off 48 balls. Anand Sharma, Mukesh Roy and Rideep Boro of Sarvajanik scalped a wicket each.

In reply, Sarvajanik Hindi School were bundled out for 77 runs in 17.1 overs. Rideep Boro scored 21 runs off 32 balls while Anand Sharma and Abhishek Roy contributed 13 runs each. L. Kiran Sinha, Chandra P. Jalewal and Ganesh Kr Rai scalped two wickets each for Noonmati.

Tomorrow, Capital Public School will play Fairyland School in the first match of the day while Ganesh Nagar High School will face Angels of God High School in the second match.
