Bajaj double treat

New discovery

New Delhi, April 6: Bajaj Auto plans to launch two motorcycles by the second half of this year.

The country’s second largest motorcycle maker is working on two bikes in different segments, of which one will be in the semi-premium segment and the other an affordable sports bike.

According to company sources, Bajaj is working on a 150cc sports variant of its popular Discover series. Touted to be called the Discover F150, the bike will be placed below the Pulsar 150 and priced lower.

Bajaj believes the sporty features will give it an edge over competitors Hero Xtreme and Hunk, Honda Trigger and TVS Apache.

The company has been working on the motorcycle for the last few months and is now testing it on roads.

According to company officials, the motorcycle may be launched in the second half of this year.

Bajaj will also launch a 400cc Pulsar with fairing by the second half of this year. It displayed the motorcycle at the auto expo this year. Fairing is a shell over the frame of some motorcycles.

Company officials said the price of the bike would likely be below Rs 3 lakh. The Pulsar has a market share of over 50 per cent in the sports motorcycle segment.

Bajaj is working on a sports tourer Pulsar CS400. According to the company, the bike is in the development stage. Analysts believe it could be launched early next year.

Tourers are bikes meant for rides over very long distances.

Officials said in the next two years the company would work on its sports bike line up.

The Pune-based bike maker recently launched a 125cc variant of the Discover and hopes to double sales in this segment.
