Jharkhand begin well

Calcutta: Jharkhand began their campaign in the East Zone matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with a fluent 11-run victory over Tripura, at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

The intense heat, coupled with a lack of local interest as Bengal got a break after their win against Assam on Tuesday, saw the teams go through their paces in a starkly empty Eden.

For Tripura, this was the second defeat in two days, as they had lost their first match against Odisha on Tuesday.

With captain Saurabh Tiwary electing to bat, Jharkhand notched up a decent 138 for seven in their 20 overs and then managed to restrict Tripura to 127 for seven.
