Campaign stalled

Sivasagar, March 29: Assam revenue minister Prithibi Majhi had to face the fury of the people and was forced to stop his election campaign today at Maduri tea estate at Nazira in Sivasagar district.

According to reports, Majhi was campaigning for Bijoy Krishna Handique, Congress candidate from Jorhat parliamentary constituency, when the incident took place.

Sources said the crowd, primarily tea garden workers, protested in front of the minister. He was forced to stop the campaign and return.

The crowd warned him not to “do any politics using the sentiments of the tea tribe”.

They also criticised the role of the Congress towards taking measures for the development of the tea garden workers over the decades and termed them “cheats”.
