Calcutta, March 27: The Indian Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) is looking for land in Bengal to hold exhibitions. The association, under the central ministry of commerce and industry, has facilities of its own in New Delhi — it manages Pragati Maidan — and through joint ventures in Chennai and Bangalore.

ITPO facilitates interactions between buyers and sellers across industries through fairs and exhibitions.

In Bengal, it is considering the land of closed jute mills though talks are at a preliminary stage.

“We put up 30-35 fairs annually. Our properties are used to organise over 400 fairs. My colleagues are speaking for some land relating to jute mills,” Rita Menon, chairperson and managing director of ITPO, said on the sidelines of the inauguration of the 19th India International Leather Goods Fair at Milan Mela.

Menon said ITPO was trying to reach out to the small entities in the leather sector to bring them up the value chain.
