A matter of one outing for Yuvi, says Kapil

Dhaka: Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri, former India captains both, are convinced that senior-most pro Yuvraj Singh is just “one innings” away from making an impact in the World T20.

In the two matches so far, Yuvraj has totalled 11 runs. Uncharacteristically, he’s dropped two catches, one in each game.

Excerpts from what Kapil and Ravi told The Telegraph...

KAPIL: Yuvi’s talent is undeniable... But talent is of no worth if it can’t be used in the most productive manner... Is he aware of the talent he has? He’s got to keep working hard and be honest... No sportsman should ever deceive himself... The captain (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) and coach Duncan Fletcher must give Yuvi the confidence that he’ll play all the matches and encourage him to go out and enjoy himself... It’s a matter of one outing, really... In my view, the pressure on Yuvi is actually much less now. I say so because people don’t have the same high expectations of him, today, as they have of Virat Kohli.

RAVI: Yuvi’s one innings away from making an impact... His time will come. Sometimes, things don’t go your way and he’s dropped catches! You don’t associate that with Yuvi... He’s got to make sure that he’s involved in the game at all times. Often, a wicket or a run out, not necessarily runs with the bat, could act as the trigger to lift confidence... Yuvi can be unstoppable, for once he smells blood, he’ll go for the kill... I’m glad Dhoni spoke so highly of him at the media conference (on Sunday). Now, he should tell Yuvi that he’ll be playing all the matches and that he expects him to win two for India. Don’t forget Yuvi’s among the all-time great T20 players.
