Nambul triumph

Imphal, March 23: Nambul Mapal Polo Club (A) rode into the second round defeating Meiraba Polo Club (A) today by 6-5 goals in the fourth 57 Mountain Division Polo Tournament under way at Mapal Kangjeibung here.

The game extended into the fifth chukker, after both teams were locked with 5-5 goals in the fourth round and it was Nambul Mapal rider Paikhomba who struck home for the victory.

Nambul Mapal Polo Club started strong with L. Tarun Singh hitting home two goals in the first chukker. Meiraba rider Th. Premkumar Singh brought relief to his teammates striking his team’s first goal to trail by 1-2 goals in the first chukker.

Meiraba Polo Club came up with the equaliser through Th. Nanao Singh early into the second chukker. But their opponents came back stronger as Nambul Mapal rider S. Girimohon and L. Tarun struck a goal each to take a leap to 4-2 goals. Meiraba rider K. Romeo was able to get his team on the goal track again with their third goal to make the tally 3-4.

Meiraba made better connection in the third chukker and it was L. Ashutosh who fetched the equalising goal to make it 4-4. But their joy was shortlived as Nambul Mapal’s seasoned campaigner S. Girimohon pushed home to take the lead again.

L. Ashutosh scored the fifth goal to level scores 5-5 in the fourth chukker. The deciding fifth chukker saw Nambul Mapal rider O. Paikhomba come up with the golden goal for the victory.

Body-builders: The Manipur Amateur Body-Builders’ Association will hold a trial on April 6 at Kakwa Community Hall to select body-builders for the 62nd National Amateur Body-Building Championship 2014 to be held in Udupi, Karnataka, from May 21-22.
