Dhaka: Former captain Zaheer Abbas, who now travels with the Pakistan team as a consultant, is of the view that Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Shahid Afridi could play the biggest role for their teams on Friday.
“Dhoni wasn’t available for the recent Asia Cup and India missed his captaincy... He’s back with all his experience... For us, Afridi is a match-winner and he’s looking to repeat what he did weeks ago (taking Ravichandran Ashwin to the cleaners in the last over),” Zaheer, a legendary batsman of his era, told The Telegraph on Thursday evening.
Speaking at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Zaheer added: “Both teams have their strengths and I do expect a good match... People talk of pressure, but I’ve been telling my team to treat the World T20 opener as just another match. Koi pressure lena hi nahin hai.”
Zaheer dismissed as “rubbish” a report from Pakistan which spoke of differences between captain Mohammed Hafeez on one side and head coach Moin Khan and himself on the other.
“Am I here to make things difficult for our captain? That report is rubbish,” Zaheer insisted.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi is expected for the match.
