Handique assets worth Rs 3cr

- Cong candidate richest among three nominees for Jorhat seat

Jorhat, March 20: Congress MP and former Union minister B.K. Handique is the richest among the three candidates who have filed their nomination papers for the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat, with immovable assets valued at Rs 3,35,00,000.

The assets include a flat of 1,400 square feet (on the third floor of Surya Apartment) in Guwahati, whose market value has been declared as Rs 25 lakh, according to the information provided in the affidavit submitted to the returning officer. He also owns a plot of land in Jorhat district measuring eight bighas, four kathas and six lessas, whose market value is Rs 3 crore.

The veteran Congress leader owns an ancestral two-storeyed building at ward 10 of Jorhat Municipal Board, measuring 4,200 square feet, whose market is Rs 10 lakh.

Handique also declared he and his wife Swarup Rani have Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 cash in hand respectively.

The total value of movable assets Handique owns is Rs 76,03,937.52. These include a Vento valued at Rs 8,20,000, a Maruti SX4 valued at Rs 8,22,500. Swarup Rani has movable assets worth Rs 22,74,748.52, which include ten tolas of gold ornaments valued at Rs 2,50,000.

Handique disclosed he is 82 years old and completed his masterís degree from Calcutta University in 1959.

On the other hand, AGP candidate Prodip Hazarika has declared he and his wife Purabi have cash in hand of Rs 75,000 and Rs 55,000 respectively.

Hazarika, a former minister, has movable assets valued at Rs 8,41,625.

These include a Thunderbird motorcycle valued at Rs 90,000 and a Tata Sumo valued at Rs 3 lakh.

His wife has movable assets valued at Rs 18.62 lakh, which includes a Maruti Zen valued at Rs 2.5 lakh.

Hazarika owns immovable assets valued at Rs 30 lakh, which include agricultural and non-agricultural land in Sivasagar district and a commercial building measuring 2,880 square feet at Amguri town in Sivasagar district.

His wife owns immovable assets valued at 12 lakh.

The AGP leader disclosed he has an outstanding loan of Rs 6,50,000 at the SBI branch in Silpukhuri branch in Guwahati.

Hazarika holds a masters degree in science from Guwahati University in 1985.

Dhrupad Borgohain of the CPI, a former Rajya Sabha MP and former MLA from Nazira in Sivasagar district, has disclosed he has Rs 10,000 cash in hand.

Borgohain has immovable assets valued at Rs 11,64,690, which include a Bolero valued at Rs 5.85 lakh.

The CPI candidate has immovable assets valued at Rs 2.85 lakh, which includes agricultural and non-agricultural land and his residence at Nazira in Sivasagar district. He stated he is 68 years old and is a graduate from Sivasagar College in 1961.
