Rape complaint

A merchant navy officer was arrested for allegedly raping a woman repeatedly.

The woman, who lives in Jadavpur, had studied in the same school as the accused and was apparently his friend since Class X, said police sources. Both are 25.

The complaint lodged with Jadavpur police station on Wednesday states that the woman had left home on March 13 and met the accused in Garia. She checked into a hotel in Kasba, where she was allegedly raped twice the same night.

“She told us that she had checked out and returned home the next morning. However, she called the accused and left home again the same day. This time she checked into a hotel in Patuli, where she said the accused again raped her repeatedly,” said an officer.

She was at the Patuli hotel from March 14 to 19. After checking out, she lodged a complaint with Jadavpur police station.

“The accused, picked up from his Sonarpur home, claimed that he was trying to help his childhood friend, who was planning to elope with another man. He said that during all her visits to the hotels, he was accompanied by his girlfriend,” said an officer.
