Navarang beat FCI by 5 wkts

Guwahati, March 14: Navarang Club today inflicted a five-wicket defeat on Food Corporation of India Sports Club in their match of the Bhupen Chandra Mahanta Guwahati Sports Association A Division Cricket League at the Nehru Stadium here.

Batting first, the FCI batsmen failed to pile up a competitive total as the side went on to manage 145 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their stipulated 35 overs. The Navarang batsmen eased past the target losing five wickets in 31.2 overs.

For FCI, Romario Sharma scored 42 runs, which included two hits to the fence and three over the rope while Rahul Hazarika chipped in with 18 runs (2x4). Shyam Sarma scalped three wickets conceding 13 runs in his allotted seven overs, while Sadek Imran Choudhury and Ikramul Ali picked up two wickets each.

In reply, Kaushik Ojha topscored for Navarang with 44 runs which included four boundaries and two sixes while Lakhan Das and Shyam Sarma chipped in with 31 (3x4) and 22 (2x4) respectively. Romario Sharma picked up two wickets going for 17 runs in his 6.2 overs while Ranjit Choudhury scalped one wicket conceding 40 runs in his quota of overs.

Gauhati Town Club will face Ankurjyoti Club tomorrow.

In another match, Maharana Athletic Club and Chandmari Sports Club registered convincing wins in their respective matches of the GSA B Division Cricket League at the Latasil Playground here today.

Maharana Athletic Club got the better of Star Sporting Club by 33 runs while Chandmari Sports Club beat Narkasur Jyoti Sangha Club by 21 runs. New Star Club will play Titan Club in the first match of the day tomorrow while Dynamo Club will face Brahmaputra Club in the other match.
