North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd’s decision to reorganise its electric supply section has come as relief to consumers who would now be saved the misery of travelling far to lodge their complaints.
The restructuring of the section would also help the distribution company (NBPDCL) provide better supply and quick restoration of power.
Earlier, a junior engineer used to be in charge of two or three supply sections catering to the needs of around 15,000 to 20,000 consumers. This led to creation of a section comprising a large geographical area and people had to travel a sizeable distance to lodge complaints or grievances at the junior engineer’s office.
“In our area, one junior engineer was in charge of two supply sections of Bochahan and Mushahri that comprised a huge geographical area. We had to travel around 10km to reach the supply section office to get our work done. Now, with junior engineers being appointed in both the sections, the distance had reduced significantly,” said Binay Kumar Verma, a resident of Malighat under Mushahri in Muzaffarpur district.
The electric supply section, which is constituted normally at the block-level, is the lowest in the distribution company’s organisational structure vis-à-vis power distribution. A junior engineer rank officer of the distribution company heads the section.
“We have re-organised all supply sections falling under the NBPDCL’s jurisdiction. With the re-organisation of the section, the area of the section has been reduced. Now, each junior engineer has been assigned a supply section,” said a senior NBPDCL official.
NBPDCL has created 102 additional supply sections after re-organising all supply sections afresh, he said, adding that earlier there were 234 supply sections in north Bihar but now the number of sections has gone up to 336.
Sources said the distribution company has appointed and posted a junior engineer in every supply section having a consumer base of 6,000 to 10,000, adding that two junior engineers have been posted at sections where the number crossed more than 10,000 users.
