Calcutta, March 10: The Election Commission has directed the Birbhum administration to probe into a complaint against CPM MLA Anisur Rahman for his remarks targeting the chief minister on Saturday.
Bengal chief electoral officer Sunil Kumar Gupta’s office has issued instructions to the district magistrate and the district election officer for the Lok Sabha polls to submit a report by the end of this week.
Parliamentary affairs minister Partha Chatterjee also moved a privilege motion against Rahman with Speaker Biman Banerjee today.
“This is a very unhealthy practice. Elected representatives of all parties should stop use of unparliamentary language,” Chatterjee said.
If the state electoral officer is satisfied with the district magistrate’s report, it would be forwarded to the Election Commission for recommendation on action against Rahman, if he is found guilty.
Else, the poll panel would launch an independent probe, on the basis of which it would take its decision on the course of action.
