Dance ire murder

Calcutta, March 8: A 22-year-old youth was hacked to death early this morning after he and a few other residents objected to what they considered an “obscene” dance at a wedding in their Entally neighbourhood.

Chandan Ghosh, a driver, was chased through the alleys of Malipara around 1.30am before being struck on his head, hands and legs.

A group of three men and a woman whose dance sparked the controversy are in hiding. The four of them, all residents of the Pottery Road area, are the main accused.

The young woman, a widow, and the three men were allegedly dancing to Hindi movie numbers at the wedding of her next-door neighbour late last night.

“They were dancing on the road in front of the house where the wedding was taking place. They seemed to be drunk,” a Pottery Road resident said.
