Uttam, Farida sprint fastest

Hailakandi, March 6: Uttam Das of Friends Club and Farida Parvin Laskar of India Club emerged the fastest man and woman respectively, winning both the 100 and 200 metre sprints in the four-day annual sports meet of District Sports Association of Silchar that concluded on Tuesday evening.

Tunibala Sarkar of Malugram Athletic Club won three medals in different events while Pompi Begum Laskar, Biswahari Das, Farida Parvin Laskar, Pintu Ram, Gaurav Chauhan and Uttam Das bagged two medals each. Tunibala won gold in shotput, javelin and discuss throw.

India Club’s C.H. Chingleiba Singha won the gold in men’s 1,500-metre run. Pintu Ram of Malugram Club won shot put and discus throw gold while Deven Sinha of India Club won the title in javelin throw.

Green Hornet emerged the women’s champion in kabaddi. In the final at Police Parade Ground in Silchar, Hornet defeated India Club 46-24.

In men’s kabaddi, India Club emerged champions, beating Police Athletic Club 30-23. India Club’s Najibur Rahman was adjudged Best Male player while Biswahari Das of Green Hornet was named the Best Female player.

At the school level, Pompi Begum Laskar of MC Higher secondary School won the 1,500 girls’ race title while Shahid Ahmed Laskar of Moinul Haque HS School won the boys’ 1,500 race title.

Fajira Yasmin Barbhuiya of Malugram Girls’ School and Sarfaraj Alam Kaji of Oriental High School won the boys’ and girls’ long jump events respectively.
