Three in net for trader’s murder

Ranchi police on Thursday cracked the broad daylight murder case that rocked the capital on February 27, with the arrest of three persons.

The trio on bike had shot dead a trader, Kewla Kachchap (45), near Seventh Day Adventist Hospital on Bariatu Road in Sadar police station area.

The case was solved with the arrest of the killers from Booty petrol pump. The firearm — a 9mm pistol — and vehicle used in the crime were recovered from them.

Those arrested include two youths, Banti and Nizam, residents of Ratu and Bariatu respectively, and a 45-year-old man, Nepal Mahto, whose house was also in Bargain area where the victim lived.

The murder was committed over a 40-decimal plot that was owned by Kachchap, near his cosmetic shop at Booty More.

“Mahto was eyeing it. But he wanted to buy it at a lower price. He hired Banti and Nizam to threaten Kachchapinto handing over the plot to him,” said SSP Prabhat Kumar while addressing a press conference at his office, where the criminals were produced before the media.

Mahto had assured the duo of Rs 5 lakh for the work and even given them an advance of Rs 1 lakh.

“Banti and Nizam tried every trick to grab Kachchap’s land. But when all their attempts failed, the duo along with Mahto decided to eliminate him,” the SSP added.

Around 2.15pm on February 27, the trio on bike fired two rounds on Kachchap, who was biking towards Karam Toli Chowk from his residence at Lamp Basti.

One of the bullets hit him on his head and Kacchap fell off the bike.

People from nearby shops and houses, hearing the gunshots, rushed to the spot. But they failed to locate the attackers, who had fled by then.
