Sunday date for soccer tourney

The Patliputra Art Culture and Sports Foundation would organise the third edition of Bihar Cup — an all-India soccer tournament — from March 9.

The matches of the 15-day tournament would be played at Moinul Haque stadium. Eleven soccer teams from across the country would participate in it.

Giving details of Bihar Cup, food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak, also the president of Patliputra Art Culture and Sports Foundation, said the tournament aims at popularising football.

The 11 teams participating in this year’s Bihar Cup are Aryan Club, Calcutta, Peerless Football Club, Calcutta, Bangalore District Football Association, Army XI, Bangalore, Assam Regimental Centre, Punjab Police, Army Boys’ XI, Lucknow, Yajdani Football Club, Bhubaneswar, Football Leaders’ Club, Mumbai, RK Steel Football Club, Siwan and Raj Milk, Patna.

The teams would vie for the cup and Rs 1-lakh prize money for the winning team, Rs 50,000 for the runners-up and Rs 25,000 each for the four semi-finalists.

The players would be provided accommodation at the Patliputra Sports Complex hostel. Three senior players would be felicitated during the tournament.

The Pataliputra Art Culture and Sports Foundation promotes sports. Its patron-in-chief is JD(U) Rajya Sabha member N.K. Singh. Its patrons include senior RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui.
