Three held for killing policeman

Bhubaneswar, March 4: Keonjhar police today arrested three persons for killing Ghatagaon inspector in charge Dillip Sahu last month.

The arrested accused were identified as Kamalakanta Matian, Bibhuti Naik and Santosh Lohar. The police have also recovered a motorcycle, two pistols and ammunition they had used to execute the crime.

Sharma said all the three have criminal backgrounds, as they had committed burglaries and robberies in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

Sahu was killed when he, along with others, was chasing the three near Saharpada village, about 150km from here, on the night of February 22. The dacoits opened fire and hurled bombs at the police vehicle, which overturned under its impact. Though Sahu came out of the vehicle and fired at the robbers’ gang, he suffered grievous injuries. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
