Uga, Chidi are still uncertain

Calcutta: For the last few weeks, nothing has been going East Bengal’s way. Their winless streak since the resumption of the I-League have ruined their prospects of winning the competition.

On top of that, two of their key players — Uga Okpara and Edeh Chidi — have sustained injuries and a cloud of uncertainty continues to hover over their availability for the next couple of matches, against Mohammedan Sporting and Lajong FC, on March 11 and 14, respectively. “Uga had sustained ankle bursitis, but at the moment, he seems to be a tad better.

“Chidi, who hurt his quadriceps, underwent interferential therapy today. Look, more they rest, better and fitter will they be. In fact, Chidi was just not in a position to play on Saturday. But both he and Uga are very eager to be back in action for our next game.

“We are also pretty optimistic looking at them,” club assistant secretary Dr Shantiranjan Dasgupta said on Monday.
