HEC exports

Heavy machine tools plant (HMTP), a unit of Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), Ranchi, successfully completed its export order and dispatched the final consignment to Bangladesh on February 26. Competing with firms from countries such as Germany and China, the HMTP had bagged the global contract in June 2012 to modernise Saidpur railway workshop in Bangladesh. The work order, valued over 1.89 crore BDT (Bangladesh Taka), around 19 lakh USD, was for supply, installation and commission of machine tools for the neighbouring country's largest railway workshop set up in 1870. While the first installment of tools was supplied in July 2013, the rest, manufactured by HMTP, were dispatched on February 26. HEC chairman Visvajit Sahay flagged off the consignment for shipment to Bangladesh

Corporate awards

February was a good month for awards for PSU Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and private sector auto giant Tata Motors. CCL CMD Gopal Singh received the corporate leader award from in Mumbai. CCL bagged Global CSR Excellence and Leadership Award (environment friendly project) for its Piparwar open-cast mine and Alok Kumar, its DGM (environment and forests), the most talented CSR professional by World CSR Congress, also in Mumbai. Jamshedpur’s commercial plant of Tata Motors was crowned “the best of the best” award by INSSAN for this year during its 24th national convention held in New Delhi. The auto giant bagged 11 other honours at the meet, notching a record for a single company

Job training

An extension counter of board of practical training (BOPT), under Union HRD ministry, opened at ASIA Bhavan, the office of Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA) on February 21. The board helps graduate engineers, diploma holders and those passing vocational courses to get on-the-job training to make them industry-ready

New pathology lab

SRL Diagnostics Limited (SRL), a clinical chain of diagnostic centres, launched its first pathological lab in Dhanbad on February 22. “The new-age diagnostics set-up, manned by skilled workforce, will offer quality and timely results,” said Deepa Dave, SRL director, lab operations. The lab is capable of conducting over 5,000 medical tests a day, ranging from routine to highly advanced ones
