- Police to upload list of most-wanted criminals on site

Middle-aged Devesh, who murdered his stepmother and two sisters on a chilly December day in 2012 in the upscale Patliputra area, foxed cops and fled to Toronto in Canada.

With the police not having made much headway in the probe, there is always the possibility of Devesh having returned to the country and leading the life of a recluse.

The Patna police, taking a cue from their counterparts in other cities, will soon come out with a list of most-wanted criminals in the district as well as those absconding on its website —

Sources said the list was being prepared and all the police stations of the district had been asked to furnish the details of those absconding in their respective areas along with their pictures and current status.

“There are many police forces in the country which have the most-wanted and absconding list on their websites. The whole motive behind this is to catch these men and women. They have committed shocking criminal incidents and been absconding since long. All of them tend to move to other cities of the country or even abroad and keep a low profile. If these details and pictures are put on the website, there is always a chance that people might go through it and they can be identified by any of them. There will be a whole set-up when it comes to giving information about these people to the police and it is obvious that identities of the informers will be kept secret. The first step has been taken at present and all the police stations have been intimated towards the same. They have to provide the list of men absconding in their areas with their pictures if possible,” a police officer said.

The sources added that there would be two lists in all which will be uploaded in the website. “The first list talks about the 10 most-wanted people in Patna. The police already have a list, which will be screened and updated first before the uploading process. The second list talks about those who have committed different crimes and are absconding. This list will be exhaustive, as it will include all the police stations. A proper verification and screening will be done before the lists are uploaded. The police hope that by first week of March, all the details will be available on the website,” another police officer said.

With the cops not disclosing the details of the most-wanted men in Patna, the sources said people like Devesh were expected to feature in it.

“The man, according to a well-laid plan, had murdered three persons of his family, and then easily slipped off to Canada. But it was two years back and there is always a chance that he is back and living low in a different city. The case of Sharavan is also interesting. Sharavan, according to a well-hatched plan, had poisoned five persons of his family, including his wife and three children. He had brought them to a city hotel and then poisoned them and fled,” he added.
