How to wear the jumpsuit

Do I have to wear a belt with my jumpsuit?

It depends on the fit of your jumpsuit (and your figure). If your jumpsuit — and waist — is as sleek as Priyanka Chopra’s then definitely! If you are big around the middle, a belt will draw unnecessary attention to your waist. It’s best to go slouchy in that case.

would I look fat in a jumpsuit?

Jumpsuits are tricky. If you are feeling fat in one, you are probably looking it too. Spend time trying out many till you find the silhouette that works your assets and hides the negatives. And then there’s always Spanx. Avoid jersey and narrow legs if you have unwanted curves. Highlight your best bits, whether your arms or decolletage like hour-glass beauty Neha Dhupia. Clever drapes and skimming fabrics are forever welcome.

PS: VPL (visible panty line) alert! Seamless underwear, boy shorts or thongs please.

Can I wear it with flats?

Yes! Look how stunning Deepika Padukone looks in her thong sandals and jumpsuit. But make sure the length of the hem is right and doesn’t sweep the floor. For flats, it’s best that your jumpsuit is cropped and ends at the ankle. Go for gladiator flats, bejewelled chappals. Just no FitFlops please.

Can I wear one to a formal event?

Of course. Contrary to what you might think, jumpsuits can look super glam if styled right. Think luxe fabrics, dramatic detailing and fab finishing touches. Make your jumpsuit sexy with daring cut-outs, or go trendy like Elizabeth Banks (right). The printed bustier with a wide waistband adds a hint of quirk to the black bottoms. We love the length and how she seals the look with classic pumps and a trendy box clutch.

What’s better — skinny leg or wide?

Up to you, really. Depends on the body type and the occasion. Wide-legged ones like Kareena Kapoor’s are more flattering and formal whereas skinny is great for a brunch or a day out in the sun.
