Trinamul poll pact for Jharkhand

Calcutta, Feb. 24: Trinamul today forged an electoral alliance with the Jharkhand Peoples’ Party (JPP) for contesting all 14 Lok Sabha seats in the neighbouring state.

Trinamul all-India general secretary Mukul Roy today met JPP president Surya Singh Besra at the ruling party’s headquarters in Topsia and decided on the pact.

“We will fight all the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand in alliance with the JPP,” Roy told a news conference. “We will finalise the sharing of seats at another meeting in Ranchi later.”

Besra, a former JPP legislator from Ghatsila, said a meeting was scheduled for February 26 in the Jharkhand capital to choose “consensus candidates”.

Roy later announced that Trinamul would field candidates for all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. “We will meet our party leaders in Delhi soon to finalise the candidates for the seven seats,” Roy added.

The Trinamul leader also said Mamata Banerjee would address a joint rally with Anna Hazare next month at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
