New outfit’s cadres held

Tura, Feb. 19: Four cadres of the newly formed outfit, A'chik Songna An'pachakgipa Kotok, were arrested today from Rongkhugre, about 19km from Tura.

The cadres have been identified as Lucky R. Natal, Netun R. Sangma, Damin Ch. Sangma and Elkin K. Sangma. West Garo Hills superintendent of police Mukesh Singh said, “The cadres were arrested this afternoon in a joint operation by the Special Operation Team (SOT) and Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) personnel. Our interrogation is on.”

One 9mm pistol, one 7.65mm pistol, six rounds of live ammunition, a walkie-talkie, along with demand notes of the outfit and the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) were seized from them.

The new outfit is a breakaway faction of the GNLA and is headed by the former finance secretary of the GNLA, Reding T. Sangma.
